What is an au pair?
An au pair is a young adult aged between 18 and 25. Unmarried and without (foster) children, he or she travels to a foreign country to stay with a host family for a maximum of one year. The au pair is considered a full family member and supports the family in taking care of the children and doing light housework.
In return, the au pair receives free board, lodging and pocket money (between € 300 and € 340 per month) from the host family.
The purpose of the au pair stay is cultural exchange. Furthermore, it allows the au pair to improve his/her language skills. Therefore, a stay in the home country does not count as an au pair stay. In the host country, the au pair should indeed participate in a language course. The host family pays approx. € 365 for this language course.
The same applies to the au pair insurance https://www.aupairverzekeringen.nl/isis-au-pair-verzekering and her trip ( return ticket).
